![]() ![]() We all deal with varying altitudes, why would somebody take the time to lock out the compensation? The high and low octane tables are there so if we happen to get some crap gas we won't enjoy the sound of crispy piston soup in the oil pan. Anybody who locks barometric IMHO is taking a step backwards. I've talked to a couple "professionals" that were out of their minds. On the other hand, a bad tuner is a bad tuner. I normally see mail order tunes very safe with their timing. A mail order tune really can't get max power because the timing curve is theoretical. A local tuner can make sure all the sensors are in spec, make sure fuel pressure doesn't fall off, even verify all cylinders are running. A bunch of blame gets put on the tune when an engine doesn't deliver. There are a bunch of variables that a mail order tune can't fix. If these kind of people can't figure out a simple electrical circuit do you think they are going to be able to figure out how an engine controller works? Look at how many posts there are on this web forum alone about people who have electrical issues that they can't figure out. really doesn't have the skills and/or knowledge to deal with anything too sophisticated. I really suspect that it is because the typical hot rodder, wrencher, hack, etc. Most of the aftermarket harnesses and computers I've looked at make everything simplified. (This is what I would bet a lot of it stems from) The tuner doesn't have the vehicle at their disposal to tune it and get everything working 110% correctly and they don't want to have to deal with call/comebacks. (I'd be willing to bet that there are a lot of people on this board who would specify something like this)ģ. The customer requested a simplified installation/wiring setup. The tuner isn't that skilled at tuning yet so it is a method of getting the computer to do what they want it to.Ģ. Why might they do this? I can think of a few reasons:ġ. By making all the tables identical they are circumventing the system and making sure the computer does what they want it to. You kind of answered your own question in a way IMHO. ![]()
